I was so enthralled with searching for vogue covers, that I am completely inspired to write a new blog post on covers alone. However, as I started with a preconceived image, I was immediately led to a new point of view. The first Vogue image is the May 1928 cover; it is charming, it is delicate, it is feminine. No definition is needed, as the image evokes fashion. I want to feel as fancy as the painted lady on the cover. I went in search of modern fashion that would be acceptable to display such elegance. I landed on a Vogue cover featuring the lovely Audrey Hepburn. A stunning, classic, beauty. I am pulled to the marketable similarities between the two images. The green and purple shades used in both images points out the obvious use of complimentary color to grab a fond gaze. A possible coincidence that both ladies are donning a cap and "fashion forward" dress, I feel inspired none the less.
I continue on my mission to find modern girl attire with such class. I see this cover of Anne Hathaway and have to take a closer look. A stunning beauty that feels almost attainable. I was confronted with an all too familiar feeling. I felt immediately struck with envy for such beauty; as I sit in front of my computer in the morning with no makeup and flannel pjs. I click on the images source, to come across an article of her near starvation diet for her role in Les Mis.  I am then bombarded with visual marketing, featuring the holiday colors of white, green and red. I am also struck with the bold titles of what lay inside the magazine. I must fight past it all to see again the lovely image. A rose to the right of her creates an intrigue of the covers story.

Now for the sophisticated pieces I have found to work for the modern day girl.

re·flec·tion

/riˈflekSHən/
Noun
  1. The throwing back by a body or surface of light, heat, or sound without absorbing it.
  2. An amount of light, heat, or sound that is thrown back in such a way.
"One of the most arresting visuals for me is an old wall layered with papers, graffiti and text- our modern hieroglyphics. I try to re-create this beauty in my work, the layers of time and decay are what interest me. I hope that the person viewing my work will linger, trying to discover hidden imagery and text and depending on their life experience, find their own meaning or interpretation." ~Nina

Art Deco by Versace

art dec·o

Noun
A decorative style of the 1920s and 1930s, marked by precise and boldly delineated geometric shapes and strong colors, used in household...

I think any fashionista would agree when I say that clothing is art in itself. When I first laid eyes on this gorgeous gown by Versace, I was overwhelming inspired. The shape is feminine and modern, but the art deco design offers a beautiful contrast. I am also captured by the soft color pallet and stark, bold addition of brown. I want to wear this dress so badly, but since my pocketbook would not allow for such a splurge, I am forced to use this lovely creation as my inspiration, and attempt to find a piece that is just as captivating.

I am loving all the art deco inspired apparel that I am finding, however, nothing has grabbed my heart the way that Versace dress has. I think I may just have to learn how to sew and maybe after thirty years of practice, I could create something as lovely!

Andre Wee.

flux

/fləks/
Noun
The action or process of flowing or flowing out.

The title is Unknown, but for such a powerful image, it speaks for itself. This image feels familiar to me, a look into emotion. A figure being built and slowly pulled apart, and sometimes both at once. The warm light breathes life into the figure, while the dark feels engulfing. The figure is serene in all the confusion that is her reality; leading me to believe that she has accepted the elements that she cannot change. Andre Wee has touched my heart in geometric form.

little black dress

Web definitions
A little black dress is an evening or cocktail dress, cut simply and often quite short.
The little black dress; introduced to fashionable ladies by Chanel in 1926. The "LBD" is a must have staple in any woman's wardrobe. A true investment piece that will stay timeless and stylish forever; a dress that is only about you. The trick is to find a flattering silhouette for your figure and pay attention to the quality of the fabric. It is also important to highlight the features you love most about yourself.  So show off those sexy shoulders or highlight that gorgeous collar bone; this is your time to shine.

I am loving the little black dress... But then a Valentino pantsuit caught my eye. Could this look be just as timeless?
